The Majesty of the Khumbu
- Photographer Rae Begley
This series, by artist Rae Begley, was captured at Ngozumpa Glacier and Gokyo Lake in Nepal in 2016 and is the first instalment in a study of glaciers and an exploration of their decline in sacred mountain landscapes. These exquisitely detailed landscapes are majestic reminders that the earth is a living planet of complex beauty under threat. “Glaciers are measurable and so the impact of the melt can be seen quite clearly over a period of time. Ultimately I wanted to celebrate the soaring beauty and also highlight the underlying darkness of the Himalayas in current times and evoke a sense of urgency from the viewer bout the impact of climate change” says the artist.
