Every woman in Paris knows to make a pilgrimage to hairdresser DAVID MALLETT in their quest for seriously chic and effortless hair. Thankfully the rest of the world can benefit from his magic touch, with his elegant and highly effective eponymous hair care range.
Imagine a garrulous Australian hairdresser who moves to Paris for work in the mid nineties and bravely opens his own salon, which, now two decades on, has become the place to go for those in the know. His newly opened second salon in the storied Hotel Ritz is also a triumph, both spaces beautifully designed, decorated and trèsParisian in their own way, cool and unpretentious. Enter David Mallett, the hairdressing supremo that all the models, actresses and celebrities have on speed dial. David has developed a range of highly concentrated hair care and styling products, David Mallett Haircare, recognisable by its elegant, minimal packaging, the epitome of functional chic and a desirable design addition to any bathroom. The skin friendly formulas are so pure they are suitable for very sensitive scalps and allergy sufferers, containing nourishing ingredients such as Karavis (a plant protein extract), macadamia oil, Japanese nori red algae (for elasticity and smoothness) and magnesium and calcium-rich Murray River salt (for vitality). The Serum #DM027, in particular has become a cult product, called life changing by some (our INPRINT editor included). “It’s the perfect response to what my clients needed,” says David. “It gives shine, smoothness, health and bounce without weighing the hair down.” David gallantly refuses to name-drop his stellar clientele but does mention that Stephanie Seymour was a joy to work with (he is also a session hairdresser and works consistently with Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel). “I had the privilege of doing her hair when I was younger, she has incredible hair” he recalls. His current muse? Amy Adams.
