The concept of time has changed for all of us, which is why a classic timepiece has taken on new relevance. Chanel’s sleek J12 watch, in smooth black or white ceramic takes inspiration from the history of the house, fusing fashion and technology with strong, modernist audacity.

Hong Kong born Yan Yan Chan is a creative director and photographer who has created a considered lifestyle aesthetic, delivering luxury fashion content via her hugely popular visual diary. She describes her work as “finding the right balance between commerce and art”, and she is featured here wearing the iconic Chanel J12 timepiece, originally created by Jacques Helleu in 2000 and a reminder that the concept of time has altered for all of us in 2020.
"I never thought I’d be given so much time to sit with my emotions and thoughts, to reflect on the last five to six years of what feels like lightning speed and think about all the energy I’ve exerted outwards with not much (self-love) in return." Chan says. "I used to measure success by doing as much as possible -the- most I can. But as I spend more time slowing down and nourishing inwards, I’ve learnt what really fulfills me, and what doesn’t. I’ve been in a creative block the last few weeks and it’s probably the first time, in a very long time I’ve had the time to sit with every uncomfortable feeling that’s arisen with it, with no distractions. As unnerving as it is at times, it’s kind of wonderful being able to let myself ride through the waves. Learning to open up, be vulnerable, and know that there isn’t a rush to get anywhere".
Chanel’s J12 watch is a blend of fashion and watch making, a modernist masterpiece in a choice of intense black ceramic or pristine white. The J12 has appeared in several variations over time, and now to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it has been delicately and thoughtfully redesigned, a timely makeover for a changed world.
